This course is self-contained: it does not require any external materials. Everything is rewritten, tested, and explained here, including for those who are new to the field.

The goal of the semester is to carry out a complete penetration testing engagement, from legal planning to the final report, exactly as a consultant in offensive security would for a company. Each week adds a building block of the pentest cycle.

The GitHub repository labo-pentest contains ten projects. The lab map (chapter 0) is for cloning the repository today: you won't work through all ten projects at once, you'll come back to them in each chapter.

What is a "penetration test" (pentest)?

A penetration test (abbreviated pentest) is an authorized simulated attack against a computer system, with the goal of finding vulnerabilities before a real attacker does. You act like an attacker, but with written authorization and a defensive objective: producing a report that makes it possible to fix the problems.
