Node.js and Express

Lessons

  1. 1 Introduction You'll be able to decide whether Node fits your project, understand what its single-threaded model costs you, and pin a reproducible Node version across all your machines.
  2. 2 The Asynchronous Model You'll be able to explain the execution order of asynchronous code, spot what blocks the event loop, measure it, and move a heavy computation off the main thread.
  3. 3 First server You'll learn how to set up an Express server with ES modules, organize it into a directory structure that can handle the project's growth, load its configuration from the environment, and reload it automatically during development.
  4. 4 Routing You'll learn how to split an API into routers mounted per resource, read route parameters and query strings correctly, return the right HTTP status code in every situation, and handle unknown routes cleanly.
  5. 5 Middleware You'll learn how to order a middleware chain correctly, write your own middleware, centralize error handling, validate input, and set up logging, CORS, and rate limiting.
  6. 6 Data Access You'll be able to configure a correctly sized PostgreSQL connection pool, write parameterized queries, manage transactions without leaking connections, and put your migrations and business logic in the right place.
  7. 7 Authentication You'll learn how to hash passwords correctly, choose between sessions and tokens with full awareness of the trade-offs, configure secure cookies, and implement role-based authorization without leaving a gap.
  8. 8 Going to Production You'll learn to stop a service without dropping requests, handle uncaught errors, expose useful health probes, log in a way you can actually use, and ship a sound container image.
