Guide: Copying, Renaming, and Deleting a GPO
This guide explains how to copy, rename, and delete a Group Policy Object (GPO) in Active Directory using PowerShell. These operations let you manage and reorganize your GPOs, whether you want to create copies, adjust names, or delete unused GPOs.
Prerequisites
Make sure you have administrator rights and the necessary permissions to manage GPOs in your Active Directory environment. Run PowerShell as administrator.
1. Copy a GPO: Copy-GPO -SourceName test -TargetName testcopie
Copy-GPO -SourceName test -TargetName testcopie
This command creates a copy of the GPO named test under the name testcopie. The new GPO will have the same settings and configurations, but it will not be linked to the same organizational units.
Parameters:
-SourceName: name of the original GPO.-TargetName: name of the destination GPO.
Result:
- A new GPO called testcopie is created with the same settings as the test GPO.
