Chapter 18 — Final Mini-Project: Dart Dungeon (Console)
Level: intermediate Estimated time: 12 h Prerequisites: chapters 01 through 17 of Part 1A What you will be able to do by the end: design, write, test, and ship a complete Dart application of several hundred lines, organized into models, services, and an entry point, with JSON saving to disk.
18.0 — Chapter Objectives
By the end of this chapter, you will be able to:
- start from a requirements specification and derive a list of entities from it;
- translate those entities into classes, enums, and mixins;
- draw a class diagram and stick to it while writing code;
- organize a real Dart project into
bin/,lib/models/, andlib/services/; - write an abstract class that factors out what several characters have in common;
- encapsulate a collection behind a safe API;
- design domain exceptions and catch them in the right place;
- serialize and deserialize a complete object graph to and from JSON;
- read and validate keyboard input without ever crashing the program;
- write a game loop that stays readable despite its complexity;
- compute statistics with
where,map, andfold; - write unit tests for the game rules;
- review your own code and identify what could be improved.
